Version management is a integral part of DMSLite that is a very useful feature for organizations where it is extremely important that data is not lost at any time.
Versioning feature simply ensures that every time a change is made to file, the previous state of the file is not lost. The new changes are retained in the DMS as a new version of the file while the older state of the file is the previous version.
User has the privilege of deciding which version of the file is the default version. The default version of the file is the state of file that will be displayed when the user clicks on the file name in the document management system.
Each version information like name of creator, date of creation etc. are stored with the file so that users can get useful information on what changes need to retained.
Every time a new version of the file is added, the file version number is incremented automatically. This information is displayed next to the file name in file listing.
Switch versioning off
Versioning can be switched on or off in the entire system or on individual files so that unnecessary versions does not clutter the application.
The user also has the freedom to define how many versions of the files he needs to save across the application. For e.g. a setting for saving 10 versions has been defined, only the 10 latest versions of the file will be saved.
